The historic Mexico Farms Equestrian Center has been helping families foster bonds with their equine partners for over 30 years. Mariah Greene has been serving as the lead instructor for over a decade. In 2018, Mariah met her first special needs student, and in that moment, she realized her purpose in life.
In 2021, the Therapeutic Riding Center of Western Maryland was born. The owners of the facility, Tommy & Diane Wellons, witnessed firsthand the life-changing breakthroughs equine-assisted therapy was having in our community, and graciously donated the property to empower Mariah's non-profit vision to create The Therapeutic Riding Center of Western Maryland!

Drs. Yuval Neria and Prudence Fisher of the prestigious Columbia University Department of Psychiatry enrolled 63 Veterans with PTSD to participate in a study to test the effects of Equine-Assisted Therapy on Veterans with PTSD.
They found that more than 50 percent of the participants showed a marked reduction in PTSD and depression at post-treatment and at the three-month follow-up.
“Through horse-human interaction, veterans can relearn how to recognize their feelings, regulate emotions, and better communicate, as well as build trust and come to trust themselves again, all valuable tools to help them succeed with family, work, and social relationships,”
-Dr. Prudence Fisher

There are many ways both individuals and organizations can create impact and bring hope to our students, animals, and facility. For companies and organizations, we create top-tier marketing materials like: branded transformation videos, student & animal journey videos, and collaborative social media content, all co-branded around the impact you are making! Custom sponsorship opportunities are available, including the virtual adoption of a horse as your mascot, sponsorship of a specific student, and logo placement on our facility.
